How To Search for Breed Rescue Organizations
- Via Yahoo

If your heart is absolutely set on adopting a purebred, we highly recommend that you adopt one from your local animal shelter or from a reputable Breed Rescue Organization.   We would ask, however, that you also consider one of the millions of homeless, mixed breed animals living in shelters or being fostered by Animal Welfare organizations.

Did you know that 25% of the dogs  in shelters are purebreds? Please remember that  when you "buy" versus "adopt" a pet you are stimulating demand; this results in more breeding, more births, and sadly more  animals being put to sleep.

You can easily locate Breed Rescues by searching Yahoo.  Just follow the steps below.

1.   Visit http://local.yahoo.com/

2.   Type in the Breed of  the dog / cat  you are looking for followed by the words "Rescue" (e.g., Terrier Rescue, Dalmatian Rescue, Labrador Rescue, etc,).

3.   Yahoo will bring up your results.Don't Give Up! Most often Yahoo reports that there are NOmatches in its Catagories;  DO click on the  Go To Web Page Matches Link that will be displayed.

4.  This will give you a lot of webpages to look through. You will have to do some research.  Some Tips:

     (a)  First scan the list to see if you can find a rescue group  in your state.
     (b)  If you find one, look at the website and email them asking them if there is someone in your local city, town, or area
            that handles breed rescues.
     (c)  Even if you can't find a rescue in your state, your emails to other states will give you leads.  Often Rescue Groups
cross many states even when located in one state.

      (d)  When you do locate an rescue group and a candidate, be sure to check the references of the group (you can  ask
your local shelter or animal welfare organizations!)  Also be sure to get the animal checked out by a veterniarian
           before you adopt.
