| My name is Winston Beauregard Brennan (akaWinnie)
and I am making my cyberspace debut on Bugsy's Animal Network HomePage
to give you my two cents about the importance
of neutering or spaying your companion
animals. First let me tell you a little about myself. I am, (as my picture
plainly shows) a rather handsome, eight and a half year old male, English
Bulldog. Besides my mom and dad, I currently share a home in Rochester
NY with my cocker spaniel brother (Sampson), and 6 cats of various shapes
and sizes (Eliza Bluelittle, Big Black, Radar-Love, Pepe Le Peu, Kabuki
and Willow). Two dogs and six cats sure make for a full house but we are
all happy, healthy and get along famously -- due in no small part to the
fact that we have all been "fixed".
Back when I was a pup and the first and only family pet, my mom and dad thought they wanted to breed me -- because I was so cute and they wanted another bulldog. But as I entered my adolescence I became a little hard to handle, and had "one thing on my mind". I also developed a penchant for starting dog fights -- the bigger the dog, the greater the temptation to "prove my manhood". Mom and dad, none too pleased with this behavior, took the advise of our vet and had me neutered. It made all the difference in the world -- I became much less aggressive towards other dogs, bonded more closely with my family and forgot about "that thing" that was always on my mind. And, because I was neutered, mom and dad will never have to worry about losing me to testicular cancer -- the number one killer of intact male dogs. What's even more important, they didn't add to the pet overpopulation problem by breeding me. Instead they added to our family by adopting Sam from the Humane Society and rescuing homeless cats, one by one by one . . . Anyway, here I am eight years later and in great shape for an old bulldog (if I do say so say myself). I expect to live to a ripe old age with my adopted brothers and sisters, who, as I said, have also been "altered". So in closing, let me leave you with the words of Price is Right host, Bob Barker: "Spay or Neuter your pets". If your own pets are already spayed or neutered
why not send in a generous contribution to one of the local
shelters to sponsor a spay/neuter, shop at Bugsy's
Street of Shops - your purchases benefit Bugsy's Spay/Neuter Fund,
or review our Spay / Neuter Resource page.
